WoW! - WORSHIP ON WEDNESDAY

As a group, we at WoW! have always tried to be a bit different.  It's not for the sake of it.  It's just because there are bound to be people out there who don't necessarily want to be involved in a traditional Sunday service, but everyone deserves to be offered the love of Christ in some form.

Since our founder, Gill Smith, moved to Potton, we've been trying to work out what it is that WoW! should be and do.  The Wednesday night service ran its course (ran out of presenters mostly); we tried to convert it into more of a discussion night, with mixed success; and eventually we decided it was time to let go of the Wednesday service concept, and step into something new.  Our problem was, we didn't know what.

Leaving behind the known, and stepping into the unknown, is the hardest sort of change.  It's uncomfortable and uncertain, but if we are to discover new things, find new ways, make new connections, then it is deeply necessary; and with Christ on board, we shouldn't worry too much.

Leaving behind the comfort of a Wednesday night service was tough, but we carried with us the spirit of Christ, which was so richly sprinkled on us by Gill and Bob.  And that is the spirit of WoW!.  While we didn't know what the future would hold, we knew we carried that with us.

The journey we stepped into was one of walking and prayer; walking the streets of our village, and praying for our community and the church.  Sunday@7, now officially part of the WoW! scene, has continued to provide spiritual sustenance, and in that spirit, our time is now 7pm for all we do.

We gather less frequently now, fortnightly, rather than weekly, so we walk every 2nd Wednesday of the month, starting and ending at one of our village's pubs, and we have 30 minutes of prayers every 4th Wednesday in St Mary's.   We believe that GOD is passionate about Burwell and wants us to pray for our village!  Our prayers are a great event, and we'd like our band of devotees to grow.  We've also been developing some connections in the community and have been seen with gardening tools out and about from time to time.

We've been walking and praying for a year now, always with Christ, and always looking to the future; and we're feeling positive that 2011 will be a year when some new things take shape, so why not come and join us?  Come occasionally, or all the time, we don't mind any which way.

So no more 8 o'clock Wednesday services, but a bright future in store.  Watch this space!
